Операции с деньгами, заработанными незаконным путем (воровством, торговлей наркотиками и т.п.), с тем, чтобы создать впечатление, что они появились из легальных источников. Для этого часто незаконно полученные деньги вкладываются в иностранный банк, а затем эквивалент вклада переводится в банк, имеющий хорошую репутацию и расположенный в стране с твердой валютой.

отмывание денег
Процесс превращения денежных средств, полученных преступным путем, в деньги, имеющие легитимные формы. Осуществляется, прежде всего, с помощью многоступенчатых финансовых схем, использования подставных фирм-однодневок, офшорных зон («налоговых убежищ») и других способов запутывания следов истинного происхождения денег. Быстрое расширение подобной практики в мире обусловливается такими факторами, как рост и интернационализация организованных преступных сообществ (включая наркоторговлю), а в том, что касается России – коррупцией в госаппарате, силовых и правоохранительных структурах. На отмывании денег специализируются даже специально создаваемые для этого банки, но, видимо, вследствие их связей с правоохранительными органами, отмывание денег относится к едва ли не самым трудно раскрываемым видам преступлений.
